Bar scene number 1 |
Bar scene number 1 Charcoal and spray paint By Andrew Grant Artspace "Difference" exhibition August 2003 The Charnwood Museum. Loughborough. Leicestershire - England
Please scroll down the page This small section of work is from a larger body of drawings and paintings working from the theme of bar scenes in and around the Loughborough area. In this work I wanted to capture the theme of loneliness and isolation of the figure in the bar. My main influence for this work is Edward Hopper who I feel captures the theme of isolation very well. I admire the way he depicts a moment in time, which to the onlooker could almost be a film still because of the way it conjures up a narrative or story. I have used charcoal to produce these drawings as I feel it gives a real sense of grainalty to the overall finished piece and is a competent way of creating atmosphere, gesture and light.
