'Reflecting on Decay' combines views of Venice and images from
the series 'A Change of Pattern' using photos of fungus taken on Beacon Hill.
Transforming natural forms into repetitive patterns illustrates man’s
manipulation of the natural world, and the effort to make nature conform. The
change may only be slight and the effects beautiful in a new way, but a change
has taken place. The images are appealing and absorbing, yet they contain a
disturbing presence and subtle reminder of the threats to our planet.
There is only the smallest difference between harmony and disharmony. The fragile
balance of nature is often overlooked by city dominated countries striving to
be bigger, better, richer and quicker. If we do not change, our world will.
Cities by the sea are most at risk. High tides in Venice are increasing each
year. This beautiful city, created by generations of craftsmen, can be saved
for future generations but only if we act now, even in our own small ways we
can make a difference.
My video A Mother's Plea is that plea to you.
