Funding Award for Artspace 'I SPY' Exhibition 2004
from Arts Council England, East Midlands
Artspace, Loughborough¹s group for local practising artists, celebrated
a substantial award of £17,000 from Arts Council England, East Midlands.
Vice Chairperson, Mary Byrne said in the local press -
'We are absolutely delighted with this award. It really shows that the Arts
Council believes in us and what we can do. The money is not just to help
with the publicity and organisation of exhibitions and workshops, but a
substantial part of it is meant for the individual artistic development of
members. It will help us pay for mentoring advice from more experienced
artists and art professionals and for courses.
Artspace¹s main exhibition every year has been the large summer show at
Loughborough University School of Art and Design¹s Generator Gallery in the
Introductory Studies Building on Packe Street, Loughborough. This has been
a great success story. In 2003, 1,300 people visited the show or attended
workshops.
Andrew Wilton, the former Keeper of the
British Collection at the Tate Gallery and the renowned writer on the
painter Turner, opened it. Andrew was one of Artspace¹s mentors in 2003.
Workshops will be held in the gallery during the exhibition and include
plaster sculpture, portraiture, poetry, wireworks, and creating an
installation, as well as talks by the artists themselves'.
There was an auction of selected work on Saturday 10th July between
3.00pm and 5.00pm.
